Today, 4th of September 2006, exactly 2 days after my working life reached a milestone of 4 years (who would have thought?), I'm getting a brief respite to pay tribute to this men:

Andre Agassi

One of the Sports gods I admired and emulated during my HS days has retired from the game. He was one of those few who left the game not at the height of their greatness but because they can't play the sports anymore. Truly, love for the game. I looked up to this guy when I was learning the sport, (well, him and Pete Sampras) and dreamt of one day winning wimbledon and rolland garros (a win in the US Open would also be great). Loved watching his games (Won't forget that US open match with Magnus Larsson) and his Nike commercials with Pete. Had a blast of a time learning tennis (Unfortunately, not for the coach) with my friends back then. Learned how to hit homeruns on the tennis court. (and find and fetch the ball). I was surprised when Andre got hitched to Steffi and left Brooke. Just imagine the potential of the children of two former no.1 tennis players in world. (like Wimbledon movie eh?).

Good Luck Andre!

"Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin

Just a question, would you prefer watching an animal channel over let's say MTV? (or MTB) or Maalala mo kaya?. Maybe not right? (Some would even say a resounding no to this question). It's just that animal channels can't provide the same visual, auditory, and mental stimulation as compared to Philippine noontime shows and soap operas.(::Smacks head). But believe it or not, Crocodile Hunter made me a believer.

There was a time when I had this rare privilege of watching cable TV shows until wee hours of the morning. And during those times, when simply nothing was on,that I discovered Crocodile Hunter on Animal Planet where it's hosted by this obviously Aussie guy and his wife. First impression? CRICKEY! This guy must be NUTS. He looks like someone overdosed with caffeine and suffering from hyperactivity disorder. And the way he handles those dangerous critters is simply crazy. But i enjoyed and watched it a lot and so are the millions of converts around the world. He may had this peculiar way of showing the the real beauty of animals, but it made a lot of people appreciate and be aware of of the needs of this creatures we share the world with.
It's just too tragic that he was accidentally killed by one the animals he protected and cared for.
The Crocodile Hunter may have left, but I'm sure it produced a lot more croc hunters out there.

Godspeed Steve!
